Prepaid Summit: Middle East 2011

The Prepaid Summit: Middle East 2011 took place in Dubai on 22-23 March and combined Middle Eastern and international case studies with exclusive research on the markets and their future development.

Highlights from this year's conference

Cards International editor, James Ratcliff identified the highlights from this year including exclusive research by VRL Financial News and TNS Research highlighting corporate travel, remittance, gift cards and youth spending as the greatest areas of opportunity for banks in the Middle East.

Looking forward, we found that there is an underexploited opportunity around the UAE Government’s Wages Protection Scheme. NBD Emirates is one major bank that has developed a profitable offering in this area, and Altaf Ahmed, head of payment services and CRM at the bank, spoke about how they made it work.

Another significant growth area for prepaid products will be in the delivery of corporate banking services, most notably travel and disbursements – an obvious area of opportunity in the GCC.
