Wells Fargo offers text banking to all customers

Wells Fargo is the first US bank to make text banking available to all its customers, including those not yet signed up to its online banking service.

The service provides customers with their current available account balances, transaction history, credit card payment information, and the location of the nearest Wells Fargo ATM.

“Mobile phones are becoming an integral part of our customers’ lifestyles.  People want to take action immediately – whether it’s ordering a pizza, getting tweets or checking their current available balance,” said Wells Fargo senior vice-president Secil Watson.

“The ability to bank via text message expands financial management options for all our customers, regardless of whether they spend a lot of time in front of a computer,” he added.

The bank boasts of the safety and ease of the service because customer accounts are only referred to by nicknames.  Account numbers, passwords or other personal information is not required.

It also means users can check their account several times a day for any unusual activity and take action quickly, if necessary.
